日本を代表するプリマドンナ。
文化庁オペラ研修所を最年少、首席で卒業。「メリー・ウィドウ」「椿姫」に抜擢されデビュー。文化庁派遣による芸術家在外研修員として、ミラノへ留学。その後「トスカ」、「蝶々夫人」などのタイトルロールを次々に演じ、ブラティスラヴァ国際フェスティヴァル80周年のオープニングに、「トスカ」のタイトルロールで招聘され、ヨーロッパデビュー。その後、ウィーン国立歌劇場での「蝶々夫人」を皮切りに、ケルン市立歌劇場やベルリン・ドイツ・オペラなどヨーロッパ各地で公演。

1987年から4年連続、NHK「紅白歌合戦」に出演。
1996年韓国政府から初めての日本人正式招聘歌手として、５万人のソウルスタジアムでチョンミュンフン指揮ＫＢＯと共演。
1997年新国立劇場開場記念オペラ「建」乙橘姫役。
1999年プラハにて世界首脳が列席の中、「ビロード革命10周年記念演奏会」で指揮アシュケナージ、チェコフィルと共演し、ニュースとして世界に放映。
2005年8月『被爆60年平和巡礼コンサート』（長崎・広島）、2009年4月『天皇皇后両陛下ご成婚50周年＆ご即位20周年記念コンサート』に出演。また、2009年11月『天皇陛下御即位二十年をお祝いする国民祭典』に出演し、3万人を前に歌う。
2010年から7年連続で開催された全国のリサイタルシリーズ「歌は祈り」は成功裡に１４万人以上を動員。
2014年1～4月『夕鶴』つう役を初主演で絶賛され、2016年2・3月に全国各地で行われた再演も大好評を博した。

テレビ神奈川「佐藤しのぶ 出逢いのハーモニー」のパーソナリティを16年半務めた。

「佐藤しのぶ 母の日に贈るコンサート」は2019年に25回目を迎えその年9月にこの世を去るまで現役を貫き、世界の子供たちの為に生涯を通してチャリティ活動にも精力的に取り組んだ。

She graduated from the Agency for Cultural Affairs Opera Training Institute as the youngest and chief. She made her debut as “Merry Widow” and “La Traviata”. She studied abroad in Milan as an artist overseas trainee dispatched by the Agency for Cultural Affairs. She then played title roles such as “Tosca” and “Madame Butterfly” one after another, and she was invited to the opening of the 80th anniversary of the Bratislava International Festival with the title role of “Tosca” and made her European debut. .. She then performed in various parts of Europe, including the Cologne Opera House and the Deutsche Oper Berlin, starting with her “Madame Butterfly” at the Vienna State Opera.

In 1996, she was the first Japanese officially invited singer from the Korean government, and she performed with KBO conducted by Myung-Whun Chung at the Seoul Stadium with 50,000 people.

In 1997, she played the role of Princess Ototachibana in the opera “Ken” commemorating the opening of the New National Theatre.

In 1999, she performed with Ashkenazy and Czech Phil at the “Velvet Revolution 10th Anniversary Concert” in Prague with world leaders in attendance, and was broadcast to the world as news.

She appeared in “60 Years of Peace Pilgrimage Concert” (Nagasaki / Hiroshima) in August 2005 and “50th Anniversary of the Marriage of Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress & 20th Anniversary Concert” in April 2009. She also appeared in “National Celebration Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of His Majesty the Emperor” in November 2009, and she sings to 30,000 people.The nationwide recital series “Uta wa Prayer”, which has been held for seven consecutive years since 2010, has successfully mobilized more than 140,000 people.She was acclaimed for her first starring role in “Yuzuru” from January to April 2014, and her replays in February and March 2016 were also very popular.
